We’re answering your top questions about precious metals, how to wear them, and what to love about them.
Think of all of the things that you consider precious in your life. They’re extra special — you value them, and hold them dear to your heart.
That’s how you’ll feel about our precious metal pieces. Aptly named, these designs were crafted to be easy to wear, designed to keep on, and meant to pass down for generations to come.
But what are precious metals, exactly?
They’re any of the metals gold, silver, or platinum.
At ALEX AND ANI, precious metals are featured in our fine jewelry collection. Each piece has a base that is made of authentic, .925 sterling silver. From there, many designs also come with 14 kt gold plating, so what you choose depends on your preferred finish. It’s good to have options, isn’t it?
Why does ALEX AND ANI use sterling silver, and what does that whole .925 part even mean?
Since the dawn of civilization, silver enticed both men and women. In Colonial America, sterling silver was used for currency and general goods. .925 became the official stamp of fineness, meaning the silver content met 92.5% and was pure enough to be exchanged as money. Today, .925 remains a sign of genuine sterling silver.
(Fun fact: 9/25 also happens to be our Founder, CEO, and Chief Creative Officer Carolyn Rafaelian’s birthday!)
How is your fine jewelry different than your other pieces?
Some of our most delicate-looking designs, our fine jewelry is built to last. These pieces feature the finest sterling silver and American craftsmanship. Every piece is made right here in Rhode Island, a stone’s throw from our world headquarters. Our fine jewelry blends everyday luxury and innovation, and adds a touch of effortless elegance to your look.
You know how it’s tradition to give the gift of silver for special occasions, or use your finest silver on holidays and special events? Well, think of it this way. This is our version of the kind of silver that makes an appearance on special occasions, and lives on and on. They’re pieces you can hand down to your kids and grandkids someday.
