In honor of Grandparents Day, we’ve got five sweet tributes to celebrate your family’s matriarch and patriarch.

They keep their fridge stocked with your favorite drinks and regale you during visits with the most amazing stories from their youth. It’s a fact: Grandparents are the best. So in honor of Grandparents Day on Sunday, September 11th, make them feel as special as they are with one — or more! — of these grand gestures.

Make Them King and/or Queen for the Day
Take Gram to the spa for some pampering and polishing (bonus: you get to enjoy a treatment yourself). Or rent a boat and take Grandpa out on the lake for a special picnic. Even if they’re not up for a day trip, plan an hours-long visit and spoil them rotten: Clean their house, make lunch, go grocery shopping for them, even read them a book.

Create a Video Slideshow
Your grandparents have seen a lot of memory-making technology come and go. So gather up those dusty photo albums, home filmstrips, slides, and other still and moving images, and use a service to create a digital slideshow. Invite everyone over for a viewing party and ponder just how amazing their Instagram feed would have been had the technology existed when they were younger.

Host a Decade Theme Party
Trick out your kitchen and family room out like a soda shop and make it a 50s-style sock hop, or crank up the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and have a 60s gathering. Watch your Grandma and Grandpa get nostalgic as they harken back to the era when they were your age.

Cook Together
Grandma’s lemon meringue pie is legendary. Absolutely no one can smoke ribs as well as Grandad. If you’ve ever wondered what makes your grandparents’ signature dishes so delicious, stop wondering and just ask, “Can you teach me how to make that?” Spend the afternoon poring over their best recipes. They’ll enjoy passing the skills on to you, and everyone can dig into the feast at the end of the lesson.

Give a Memorable Gift
Did Nana teach you how to knit? Say thank you with a handmade scarf. Are your fondest memories with your Pop-Pop on the mini golf course? Suggest heading out for a round together. If you’re having trouble coming up with something meaningful, consider a Grandmother Charm Bangle that she can show off to her friends or an ALEX AND ANI candle that Grandpa can light when he settles in to read the newspaper.
