We’re kicking off Mother’s Day with a series of interviews featuring members of the ALEX AND ANI team and their experiences with unconditional love. In the interview below, Yajaira Alvarado (@yalvarado7) explains how motherhood has made her see things in a new way.

How would you define your personal experience with motherhood?
It is very difficult but totally worth every second.

Describe your relationship with your child(ren).
Josira is super helpful and always looking for my approval. Sophia seems to believe she is the mom and is constantly trying to get her way. I love them both equally and we spend a lot of time together.

Mothers are superheroes defying time, gravity, and a need for sleep. Can you tell us about the first “I was made for this” moment you had as a new mother?
With my first born, I quickly realized that sleeping while they sleep is virtually impossible. When they sleep, you must clean, eat, shower, and clean some more! Before you know it, they wake up crying, looking for food and a fresh diaper. However, just looking at their adorable faces and experiencing all of their growth stages makes up for the tired moments.

Was there ever a moment where you felt you weren’t cut out for motherhood? Are you comfortable sharing that moment and feeling? Who (if anyone) helped you realize your strength and how did you power through it?
Like many mothers, I experienced postpartum depression where I spent many moments crying and wondering if being a mom was meant for me. I never gave up hope, and with the help of my parents and my partner Julio, I was able to survive. I wouldn’t trade being a mom for anything in this world. If you ever want to know what true, unconditional love is – have a child. They change your perspective and make you a better person. They also grow up fast, so enjoy every minute of it!

Show your mother or mother figure how special she is with pieces from our Mother’s Day Collection.
