Nicholas was born with several congenital heart defects: Transposition of the Great Arteries-Type L; Heart Block; Mild Left AV Dysfunction and History of Pulmonary Stenosis and Ventricular Septal Defect. When he was born, his parents were told that one of them, TGA-L, is a very rare one that very few people have and that the life expectancy is not very long. However, with constant monitoring and interventions of his great cardiologist and his parents, Nick is now 16-years old.

Taking a baby home with heart defects was one of the hardest things his parents have ever had to do. Nick was always embarrassed of his condition, but with the help of heart community and the American Heart Association, he has met other people with heart defects and disease and is now reaching out to help other children to let them know that they are not alone. Now that he’s older, he can verbalize any pains or “odd” heart feelings he has and has turned to helping others with heart defects/disease. He is no longer embarrassed of his condition, but rather embraces it. Nick still has a long road ahead of him, but with his determination he will achieve his dream of becoming an Adult Congenital Cardiologist.
