Are you ready to take a stand? Our Sunflower Charm Bangle recently launched and we’re excited to share an interview with Ingrid Wells, Director of Cause Marketing at Alzheimer’s Association®, with our amazing fans. Ingrid discusses the history of Alzheimer’s Association® and how the Sunflower Charm Bangle will help raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.

Who is the Alzheimer’s Association®? What is its mission?

The Alzheimer’s Association® is the world’s leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Founded in 1980 by a group of family caregivers and individuals interested in research, the Association includes our headquarters in Chicago, a public policy office in Washington, D.C., and a presence in communities across the country.

The Association addresses the global Alzheimer’s disease epidemic by providing education and support to the millions who face dementia every day, while advancing critical research toward methods of treatment, prevention and, ultimately, a cure. Our mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

How did the relationship between the Alzheimer’s Association® and Alex and Ani/Charity by Design begin?

Alex and Ani had a fundraising relationship with a few Alzheimer’s Association® chapters. The Rhode Island chapter connected the company with our National Organization to explore expanding the relationship to the national level. With shared values and a common desire to advance the fight against Alzheimer’s disease, we developed a synergistic relationship. The Association is pleased to partner with Alex and Ani and appreciates their support of our organization through the sale of their sunflower bangle.

What is the significance of the charm’s sunflower design?

The design was inspired by the Promise Flowers featured in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® Promise Gardens, a defining aspect of our longest-running signature event. The sunflower signifies many of the attributes — strength, resilience and optimism — we work to help to instill and promote in individuals living with the disease and those who care for them.

What was the process of designing the Sunflower Charm Bangle like?

The Association was excited to see the sunflower charm come to life during the design process. Like women — a group that is disproportionately affected by Alzheimer’s — it is hopeful and strong. We feel that many women will enjoy the design and connect with the meaning behind it. We can’t wait to see the bangle in stores and on the wrists of women as a symbol of support for the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.

What do you hope the Sunflower Charm Bangle will do for Alzheimer’s Association®?

The goal of the Alex and Ani sunflower bangle is to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and the Alzheimer’s Association®. We also hope that the bangle will remind women of their strength and inspire them to take action in the Alzheimer’s cause.

Want to help in the battle to end Alzheimer’s? Through December 2015, 20% of proceeds received by Alex and Ani from selling the Sunflower Charm Bangle, with a minimum donation of $25,000, will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Association to advance research and enhance care and support for those living with Alzheimer’s.
