December is here —  a time to shed, redefine, and set forth. It is a month to reset.

There is work to be done, but this work can serve you for the rest of your life and imprint on your soul. This is a time of looking at yourself in your deepest, darkest, depths, and honestly looking at relationships and goals in your life. Turn inward to go outward with gusto and fortitude. At the end of the month with the Winter Solstice, welcome in the new light and the new you. This is a month of true freedom and radical love.

This month starts off with Venus in Sagittarius on December 1st. After it transits out of intense and serious Scorpio energy, Venus in Sagittarius invites you to get lighthearted this holiday season. Embrace this time of universal love – while Scorpio focuses on individual intimacy, Sagittarius is all about finding truth in love for humanity.

On the 3rd, the full moon enters Gemini. Called the “Cold Moon,” it is also a Supermoon, which means it is the closest to Earth the moon could be. What does this mean? A lot of cosmic energy pushing you to dig deep. This is a time of information gathering. Gemini is all about being talkative, curious, seeking new perspective.

On this day, Mercury also goes into retrograde. This means the planet appears to be going backwards, and the energy gets a little wonky. Mercury rules electronics, communications, and thoughts, so a lot of the time people feel confused, arguments happen easier, and electronics break. It is known within astrology that this is not a time to sign paper — this is a time to reflect and go inwards.

Mercury in retrograde has a bad rap, but in reality it does a lot of the heavy lifting for you. It cuts away all that does not serve you, and while it may not always be with grace, it certainly is effective. Breathe through it, go with the flow over friction, and always see the other perspective to negative situations with this precious Gemini moon. It goes back direct on the 22nd, the day after the powerful Winter Solstice.

The Winter Solstice on the 21st is the shortest day of the year, and a time to embrace the return of light. Prior to this date, the days were getting increasingly shorter. Now, the light returns, and you return to the light. Considered to be the birth of the sun, this day is meant to go inward, into your own darkness, and tune into your own intuition. A time of deep, dark exploration, for the next day the light returns and the days begin to get longer again. This is a phoenix energy time – a time to rise up from your ashes, a time to let go, and a time to let the light be your guiding force back home to yourself.

On December 21st, the Sun Enters Capricorn as well. Capricorns are known to be the successful sign of the zodiac – perhaps because they have to be the best at what they do. This energy is aligned to set things out for the long term. Use all the experiences and information you have collected this month and set it out. The first half of the month is collecting, and the second half is powerfully setting forth. Gather up, buckle up, and let your new truths explode out of you. This energy is no joke, and it will guide you to your ultimate purpose right now.

Because this is a month of shedding, it can be a time of grieving. You cannot move on and heal from something you refuse to experience. Cry it out, hug it out, rage it out. This is a form of self-care that is rarely talked about. Sometimes you need more than just some quiet time. Healing can be messy and experimental because it is raw and honest. There is a reason why you feel better when you cry – you are releasing. This December, release. Fearlessly. Let the holidays be a healing time of exploration and emotion. Let this month’s mantra be “I am growing, I am brave, I am in the flow and on the path that serves my highest good, always.”

Embrace this intense month. Own every experience and choice you make. You are wise, you have made it this far, and you are here with purpose. Let your truth guide you to your destiny.
