The Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals is thrilled and proud today to celebrate two years of an amazing partnership with Alex and Ani! We are truly inspired by the generosity of Alex and Ani’s Charity by Design family and also by the enthusiastic support we’ve received from Alex and Ani customers. Their overwhelming reception of the Paw Prints Bangle, featuring our logo, has proven it to be the perfect accessory for animal lovers and New York City enthusiasts alike.
The Alliance is a community collaboration of more than 150 partner rescue groups and shelters in the NYC and tri-state area, formed with the mission to transform New York into a city where no dog or cat of reasonable health or temperament has to die simply because they do not have a home. We began our journey in 2003 with a simple, albeit lofty, goal: to coordinate existing animal welfare efforts within New York City, while drawing upon external resources, to create a cohesive City-wide partnership, with the mutual goal of saving the lives of NYC’s homeless animals.
Our progress speaks for itself. Since 2002, euthanasia in New York City has been reduced by more than 74 percent, to its lowest level ever! In 2003, three out of every four animals who entered Animal Care and Control of NYC (AC&C) shelters were killed. Last year, more than three out of four animals left AC&C alive. By the end of 2013, our 10th year of operation, the Alliance will have helped to save more than a quarter-million precious lives. Today, New York City has the lowest euthanasia rate per capita of any major U.S. city.
We are grateful to Alex and Ani for the important role they have played in our success. As we celebrate our two-year anniversary with Alex and Ani’s Charity by Design, we are pleased and humbled to announce an astounding milestone has been reached: the Alliance (and thus New York City’s animals) have received more than $200,000 in donations from Charity by Design! These funds provide direct support to our life-saving programs, and have made an incredible impact towards the Alliance’s continuing efforts to continue to save the lives of adoptable animals in New York City.
